Flood Insurance Reform
March 25, 2019
According to FEMA, floods are the most common and most costly disaster in our nation, affecting all 50 states. But many consumers feel that unless they live on the coast, they aren’t affected by flood and therefore have no need for flood insurance.
While your mortgage company may not require flood insurance, you may want to do your own research to find out if there has been any flood in the history of your neighborhood or town. Additionally, you can visit the FEMA website to map your own home by address to find out more information about your flood risk: https://msc.fema.gov/portal/search
Furthermore, call your insurance agent and ask them to run a flood insurance quote on your home. If you are in a relatively low risk flood zone, the premiums are often very inexpensive, but the benefits are great!
